Massage Oils

A massage can work wonders on the body. It eases muscle tension. It causes the release of toxins. Even the very act of touching can be healing. All of those benefits can be heightened by a massage therapist who uses massage oils.

A reputable therapist wants to use quality massage oils. What features should he or she look for when planning to buy some massage oils? The best oils are light oils. Light oils do not cause the skin to feel “greasy.” Top quality light oils have a number of other important features.

Top quality massage oils have only plant-derived products. Top quality oils soak rapidly into the skin. Unless massage oil can soak into the skin, it can not deliver truly rejuvenating powers. The oil needs to soak down to the deep skin. That is where the new skin cells are formed.

Some massage oils contain ascorbyl palmitate. That is the scientific name for Vitamin C. Some massage oils contain acetate. Those oils can bring added Vitamin E to deep skin cells. All the healing ingredients in the massage oils are intended for the deep skin. For that reason, the skin should easily absorb any of the most-used massage oils.

Massage oils derive their healing powers from their essential oils. The essential oils come from various plant parts—stems, roots, seeds, flowers, bark and leaves. Yet the skin does not normally absorb essential oils. They must be carried into the skin by carrier oils.

A number of different oils can serve as carrier oils. Massage oils can be prepared at home, using some rather common carrier oils. Olive oil, safflower oil, grape seed oil and sweet almond oil all have the ability to carry an essential oil to the deep skin cells.

During the preparation of massage oil at home, the choice of added essential oil is determined by the intended use for the massage oil. If, for example, the desired massage oil is supposed to help with relaxation, then the massage oil might have lavender oil, rosemary oil and begamont oil.

If beauty oil is wanted, then the completed massage oil might have palm rosa oil, lavender oil and patchouli oil. The beautifying effects of those three essential oils can be enhanced with the proper carrier oil. At least one half of the carrier oil should be rosehip seed oil.

Creation of homemade massage oil permits performance of an ancient healing art.
