Aromatherapy Candle Usage
Candles are often used in aromatherapy to produce a relaxing or
healing effect. The best aromatherapy candles are never made from
paraffin. Soybean wax is often used to make aromatherapy candles
because soybean wax is friendly to the environment, and it uses
no animal products or synthetic material. It is generally best to
avoid candles that contain any kind of synthetic material, because
they can contain dangerous toxins.
Many candles are also made with natural beeswax. Interestingly
enough, it has been said that not only are candles produced with
natural waxes more healthy, they also burn more brightly. Candles
should not be supplemented with any man-made perfumes; the essential
oils in them should be strong enough to scent the room. Many people
recommend that you look for candles made with organic essential
oils, because these are often believed to be more powerful than
non-organic oils.
Naturally, you can find many different kinds of scented aromatherapy
candles that can help with many different kinds of disorders. Lavender
candles, for instance, are recommended for relieving stress and
producing a relaxing effect. If you're nervous, anxious and upset,
you might also try looking for a candle scented with mandarin oranges,
as this can produce a similarly calming environment. If you have
a cold and you're feeling all stuffy, then candles scented with
tea tree oil are thought to be a good remedy. Mint scented candles
are also good decongestants. Stronger scents like cinnamon and cloves
are good for increasing energy.
There can be several health-hazards that you want to look out for
when purchasing candles, though. As stated above in the first paragraph,
make sure that the candles are made with natural wax and scented
with essential oils and contain no synthetic perfumes. You will
also need to check what the wick is made of because it may contain
lead. Lead wicks haven't been common since the 1970's, but the wicks
of some candles do still contain lead. Since lead is poisonous,
you definitely want to avoid these candles! As with any candles,
be aware that they can be a fire hazard. Make sure the candle is
set very firmly into the candle holder; for if it falls over, it
can start a fire. Bear in mind that candles are one of the top causes
of household fires, and should be treated with appropriate care.
Never let small children play anywhere near lit candles of any sort.
