New to Aromatherapy?
When you’re just beginning to explore aromatherapy, things
can seem so confusing. You’ve already been told that essential
oils and fragrant oils are NOT the same thing. And since you know
that, you can not become a victim to con-artists and vendors who
are selling overpriced chemicals in a bottle.
What’s the difference between essential oils and non-essential
oils that are chemically treated? Well, essential oils are extracted
from herbs and plants themselves. The ingredients of these oils
are of the purest form. No chemicals added here! This means you’re
not polluting your skin, lungs, and home with toxins. Can you say
the same for fragrant oils? No. Chemical oils are dangerous and
should never be applied to the skin or inhaled. They most definitely
should never be ingested! All oils should be for the purpose of
external use only.
When you’re out and about shopping for essential oils, you
may feel overwhelmed by the number of bottles displayed on the shelves
before you. Sure, it’s easy to become boggled by the amount
of information in front of your eyes. Different prices, labels,
policies, cautions, and promises can confuse even the most seasoned
aromatherapy shopper. But there are certain things that you, as
a reasonable shopper, should look for.
1. If all of the oils are the same exact price, they most certainly
are not essential oils. Essential oils vary in price, as some are
more precious and rare than others.
2. Look for the words “natural” and “pure”
on the bottle. If there are ingredients, make sure that they are
all extractions from the plant.
3. Helpful sales staff that can assist you with any questions you
may have. If there’s something that you do not understand,
ask! That’s what these people are trained to do. They are
there to help you make a purchase.
Do not rush out and buy large quantities of essential oils. Start
small, and shop in a few different locations. Remember where you
purchased each bottle. Soon, you will notice that some essential
oils may seem stronger than others. Be observant. You want to continue
doing business with the supplier that is selling you oils in the
purest form.
Make sure that the companies you shop from are reputable. Steer
clear of overnight Kiosks and concession stands that will not be
there in the morning. While you may think you’re getting a
real bargain, you’re really taking a gamble. If you’re
not happy with that product--you’ll be stuck with it.
