Aromatherapy for Emotional Well Being
Many people remain skeptical about Aromatherapies actual benefits
towards emotional well being. However, it has been proven that the
Essential oils in Aromatherapy can drastically reduce stress, depression
and anxiety, and while they should not be used for serious emotional
conditions, they are still really good.
When we breathe in the scent of the Essential oils, it sends a
trigger to our brain which effects our emotions. Nice smells tend
to make us feel happier overall, but the Essential oils have properties
in them that really do improve our mood. One Essential oil that
has really helped to drastically improve people’s moods is
Sweet Orange Oil.
Sweet Orange Oil is a great oil for enhancing a person’s
mood. Many people choose to use it in winter because it has a soothing,
warm, citrus smell which tends to beat the winter blues. It has
the great advantage of being quite inexpensive, and it is also a
great oil to blend with other oils.
Different oils do different jobs. For example:
• Anger
There are some oils that are better than others for getting rid
of anger. Jasmine is one that is commonly used due to its warm,
exotic fragrance. Its scent is also really strong so that helps
it to work quickly. Jasmine is Absolute oil, therefore it is solvent
extracted and it may still contain a tiny amount of solvent.
Rose is another common one for helping to sooth the mind and gets
rid of anger. However, some people find that they have a negative
reaction to scents such as rose because it could remind them of
a bad experience which they have had in their lifetime. An example
would be a person who had a particularly abusive older family member
who smelt of rose. Whilst this may be a rare occurrence, it does
still happen. This means that not all oils will give out positive
effects, but most of the time they do.
• Anxiety
Oils such as Lavender really help to ease anxiety. Lavender is
one of the best Essential oils to use for relieving symptoms of
stress and anxiety because of its strong scent. It really does get
to the back of the nose and throat and it kind of clings there whilst
it soothes your mind.
Bergamot is also another oil which helps with anxiety, and like
Sweet Orange Oil, it has a fresh citrus scent which really helps
to clear the mind and prepare it for anything. Some workplaces have
started using this oil to help workers to work better. The scent
tends to make them a lot less stressed and worried, and it creates
a better work environment.
• Stress
Stress affects almost absolutely everyone at some time in their
lives and lucky enough there are several oils available to ease
its symptoms. As mentioned, Sweet Orange Oil is a great one for
relieving stress and keeping the mind fresh.
Patchouli is another common oil used for relieving stress and it
has a nice, medium strength, woody, earthy scent to it. It is a
deep golden brown in color and it is used by many people.
Overall, while there may still be many critics, you cannot deny
that Aromatherapy helps with our emotional well being. Research
has proven that the many different oils play a big part in our emotions
and they do have the ability to calm a stressed, tired mind, and
to sooth and create an inner calm.
